How to Prepare for a Government Typing Test
Updated 2026-10-16
1. Read your exam’s rules
Duration, language, keyboard layout, backspace and the error formula differ between exams — even those with the same WPM target. Open your exam on the exams page: we list the official notification, the verified rules and anything still unconfirmed.
2. Match the conditions
- Practise on a physical keyboard similar to an exam-centre keyboard. Phone and tablet keyboards cannot reproduce exam conditions.
- If backspace is disabled in your exam, practise the exam mock where it is disabled too.
- For Hindi, practise the exact layout (Inscript or Remington Gail).
3. Two-month plan
- Weeks 1–2: lessons and accuracy. Reach 95% accuracy at any speed.
- Weeks 3–5: daily 5-minute tests, numbers and punctuation drills, weak-key practice.
- Weeks 6–8: three full exam mocks per week; track your readiness and error percentage.
4. Exam day
- Use the practice window to check the keyboard and font.
- Do not stop after a mistake; keep a steady rhythm.
- Leave a few seconds at the end to check you completed the final word.
